I don't remember ANY of the MM's having a true Tube front end. They were always a hybrid. |

The OP may be confusing the phase inverter tube (a 12AX7) with a tube preamp. As Mike said, all MM amps were solid state preamp, tube power amps, with or without a tube phase inverter. |

The original sixty-five and HD (130) amps had the 12AX7/7025 phase splitter tube. The RD-50 (chassis 1650) has a 12AX7 circuit specifically as a limiter/overdrive/distortion effect. As previously stated, however, the actual preamp in the strict sense is still solid state. |
