Hi all, I have a music man HD-130-2-10 and am having problems with the red power light, it goes out on Low Power but works on High Power...any idea what is wrong?...thanks

I've seen this before on some amp. The light is neon and requires a certain amount of voltage to fire it(obviously!) and when in the low power setting, the power to the light circuit is halved also. It's nothing to worry about, just anoying. Mike.

oh, I did see the posting after i left mine...thanks. Can it be replaced/... I think seeing the light off when the amp is really on may be the only problem...

This can be a problem with the older models that have their Low/High power switch on the Primary side of the power transformer. When new they work fine but after the neon bulb inside the pilot light gets weak after 30 years they won't fire on the Low Power setting.
What I would do is to remove the Neon Pilot Light assembly entirely, then disassemble it to reveal the internal neon bulb. Buy a new bulb, replace it, test it then reassemble the Pilot Light assembly and reinstall in the amp.
This will keep the original look of the amp but will give you a brand new neon bulb.

if you can disantle the bulb, would it not be possible to put a blue lense in it?

A standard neon bulb only puts out light in the wavelengths that cover yellow, orange and red. Putting a blue lense on a neon bulb would result in a dim pilot light.
If you want BLUE, then I would wire in a super-bright Blue LED and dropping resistor off the preamp power supply (16Vdc). A 1.5k or 2K resistor would do it.

Because I'm lazy and don't want to pull out the tray, can any of you tell me if the hole for the neon bulb is about 3/8" - 13/32"?
If that's the right size, I've found a supplier at http://hoffmanamps.infinology.net/MyStor e/perlshop.cgi?ACTION=thispage&thispage= parts20.htm&ORDER_ID=124569671
Thanks,
WJ

Anyone find a source for the bulb?

Here's my thoughts, tell me if I'm wrong. The neon bulbs are 125v, if I stick a standard Fender 6.5v bulb in there, replace the appropriate resistor value to get the correct voltage drop, I'll be fine?

An incandescent will work if you want to do the math. Doing that will also make it a candidate for Hall of Shame. Just sayin'. BTW: The mounting hole is 1/2 inch and the neon assy. uses 3/16 Tab terminals. Here;s the pdf list from Allied. Red, Green and Amber are available. Maybe others too. Use the 2nd column of the list for Allied PNs. http://www.alliedelec.com/images/products/datasheets/bm/LIGHTING_COMP_D… Almost forgot. The numbers Terry gave are good even though they're not the same as the data sheet. Good luck. -mgriffin

I think I might already be on the way to the hall of shame. Don't judge me, it's what I want dad.

I'll probably just go with an amber neon to save with the math. But it's definitely going to be a totally different amp. Redoing the face plate, floral grill cloth, looking for a nice Buffalo Brown tolex.

It appears your project is well beyond the point of no return. With that in mind, feel free to do as you wish. I hope it turns out well. If you are in the US, check the Avatar website ( http://avatarspeakers.com/home/ ) for tolex, grillcloth and speakers. You may be surprised by the great values they offer. Good Luck. -mgriffin

Thanks for that. I'll forgo the phone call being in the UK lol. Was wondering whether the grill cloth was identical to original cloth or whether its the "close but not identical" Fender cloth?

Uh....I didn't know there was a difference. If there is, I sure couldn't see it. I used some to restore my black MM 112-65 RD and it looked exactly the same as the OEM cloth, minus the paint stains and bar patina. All of the rectangles lined up perfectly at the edges. Also replaced the OEM Eminence speaker with one from them. A 75 watt Celestion Creamback (made in UK). That was a major improvement at a very reasonable price. Try emailing them. They'll be straight with you. Good Luck. -mgriffin
