112 RD fifty

Hello all. New to forum and wondering if someone can tell me if this would be a good purchase. I'm not finding much on line about it. Music Man 112RD fifty with white tolex. I played it today and it sounds very good and is in great condition.

Well, the people who have them love them. I DON'T have one and I've quit playing so there's no need now but they ARE cool. You MIGHT want to open it up and see if there's any sign that it's been re-capped. It IS 30 years old you know! Search this site and you'll find a lot of references to them. Mike.

Sure... I like my 100 watt version...but I don't play it much. I think the 50 Watt would probably be a more useful amp. My RD112 -100 is plagued by hiss and noise. But if the one you are looking at is clean and problem free, it I think it is a good buy...try it with the Gain, Treble and Reverb all the way up. See if it is tolerably quiet on idle when cranked all the way up.

A-B Audio test it against a similar clean "all tube" Amp if you can...like a Fender Deluxe Reverb...if you still like it, then it's a keeper.

I have one from 1982-84 and I love it! I gig with it regularly and it's always great! Even if it needs new caps, I would still get it...a cap job should only be a couple hundred bucks at the very most. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. Asking price is $750 and I think I can get it for $500. I tested a few amps at local music store yesterday and even the tube amps didn't have the punch MM has. Comments from other forums, definitely recommended a tech service it before serious playing...

The pinwale amps often, but not always, had the upgrade EV speakers in them. You get more clean headroom and even more clarity with the EV as opposed to the standard Eminence. The downside would be a bit more weight.
