Who would you recommend as a good source for a quad set of Winged-C 6L6GC tubes for an HD150?? |

Thanks Lars. I heard these in an HD130 recently and want to try them in this. I am currently running original like new Sylvania but would like to save the wear on them at the moment. I would like to hear some of the JJ/Teslas too. |

Back in the day, I used to buy tubes (valves) from this old Norwegian guy. He had a warehouse full of old tubes (some NOS, some 'newsed') - all the right sh**. It was an absolute pleasure to use the old narrow 'stick' original Philips EL-34 in an HD-130 head. Of course the phase splitter was a vintage Telefunken or Miniwatt or Siemens brand. I still have one of those ECC83 in my Chandler Tube Driver. |

While we are doing a little reminiscing, I used to buy all my electronics goodies from a place called Ebinger Radio in Alton. You'd love this old place. It was an old WW2 era quonset hut building(round steel) that was painted a gawd awful color of blueish green. It was primarily a TV repair electronics place that was wholesale but they knew me back in the day and sold to me wholesale. I found a receipt not too long ago where I bought 6L6GC's for $2.29 each. And these were Sylvania. The guy that worked there was name Gary something and he was a nice guy and tolerated me(no small feat). Anyway, they are why I have several quads of Original Sylvania 6CA7's in the basement shop. They were so cheap back then and Gary was telling me that I'd better get them while I could because tubes were going to be a thing of the past soon. Little did I know how right he was. Remember, this was the 70's. |
