How long is too long?

I don't know if this a dumb question or not. As I've wrote before, I'm just a guitar player. I know how to turn my amp on/off and can turn dem little knobs on the front. But you get me messing with the back and I'll probably burn the place down.
Anyway, my question: How often should you use your amp if it's been sitting for a while? I'm not playing as much as I used too. When I do, I've been just grabbing my acoustic guitar.
Some of my gear has been sitting for months so that got me to wondering about it. I know it's a good idea to fire up that old pick-up truck your brother-in-law left in your back yard now & then. Is it the same with MM amps?

I'm fairly sure nobody's ever done a study on it but the biggest reason for usage is to keep the pots clean and the caps up. Even then, the electrolytics will dry up over years and should be replaced. I guess there really IS no answer, in my opinion about how often you should turn them on. One other thing is corrosion forming on things like tube sockets. They can get dirty and cause gremlins. I guess I didn't answer your question but what I'm saying is that it's probably a good thing to turn them on every few months just to see what changes. Mike.

MM amps were all built with very stable components, relatively speaking. If the amp is stored in a dry environment, I can't see why it shouldn't be ok to go for years without being switched on.
