Replacement speakers for 212 HD 130

Hi,

Both speakers in my 212 HD 130 just blew, probably due to excessive use of bass frequencies.

I use a lot of synth filter pedals in my playing and require speakers that can handle the low frequencies produced.

After some research it seems like the Eminence Delta-12A could be a suitable option - did anyone try to install these into a 212 HD 130 combo?

The thing with the Delta 12A's is that they range to 400 W (as far as I know standard for this amp is around 65 W) - would that still work? Could it be that the output volume would drop?

Any input/suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Best regards,
Per

While I have never heard anybody install BASS speakers in a MM 2-12-130, they WILL work fine. They just will be real stiff for the guitar portions. They will work fine for the synth stuff. YOU have to decide if you are willing to give up the subtle tones of a guitar only speaker for the ruggedness of a bass speaker. You really won't notice any volume drop (IMHO). It will still be loud as hell. The Delta's are fine speakers. If you want REAL bass handling capabilities, look at the Kappa's. They are even heavier. Mike.

Thanks for the input Mike.

After further research I'm leaning towards getting the Eminence Beta-12A-2 (250w) instead. Hoping they would be able to handle the bass frequencies while avoiding the above mentioned stiffness during more conventional guitar parts. Does anyone have any experience of these speakers in a MM?

However, the Aplha/Beta series are made for sealed cabinets, so the response will not be the same in an open back cabinet as in these speakers' normal application. Since your amp is the HD, you will have plenty of power even with the Beta speakers. I would personally go with the Alphas - they are rated at 150 watts each, so ample headroom.
In my humble opinion, Kappas are overkill in this application.
