How to remove stubborn cap from driver board

210 sixty five, 2275-65. New caps came in & I was doing fine until I got to the one cap on the driver board. I can't seem to get it removed, I even burned up the fiber board a bit trying to get it out. Suggestions? Cut leads & tie in new cap?

Did you flip it over and look at the bottom? Sometimes they are looped underneath or have a big glob of solder underneath. Mike.

The lead was left intact and used as the connector under the board, so I was pulling against another solder joint. No wonder it wouldn't come out! I used your archived post technique of making loops in the old and new leads and soldering together (did the same on the smaller filter caps underneath, see photo). Not ideal, I know, but much easier than redoing the entire thing. My soldering skills aren't 100% anyway. I now have all new electrolytics, new-to-me reconed MM alnicos, and made the light bulb variac you suggested. Should be trying it out in the next day or so. Fingers' crossed!

The underside of the rectifier board (RB-1) has a "burn mark" under it and the board itself looks charred. I check it with my DMM for continuity and everything flowed ok, but I'm left wonder what could've "burned" on the underside? Cap leak? There's also a "burn mark" above the board where the wire mesh is on the cabinet. Freaky.

Hooked it up through the bulb limiter and it lit up continuously, so something's not right. Looks like I'm calling around for a tech to fix this.
